Design and Technology

Design and Technology

“Design and Technology should be the subject where mathematical brainboxes and science whizzkids turn their bright ideas into useful products.” James Dyson.

Design and Technology is taught at Stafford Leys through a bespoke curriculum which encourages critical thinking, problem solving and creativity. It draws on the disciplines of mathematics, computing and art. Using their creativity and imagination, pupils design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values.

The ethos at the very heart of this subject is designing:

 Something for

               Somebody for

Some purpose.

The key learning in Design and Technology is: designing, making, evaluating and technical understanding.

Our Design and Technology curriculum plays a key part in teaching the children about food and nutrition, resourcing seasonal ingredients and living a healthy lifestyle. In textiles, the children explore using a range of materials whilst developing their sewing skills in segments such as puppet making. The children’s technical knowledge and understanding is developed through segments such as levers and linkages, computer aided design, wheels and axels and free standing structures.
