Science
Science at our school is designed through a tailor-made curriculum in which we want to spark curiosity, inspire awe and wonder, and develop a deep understanding of the world around us. Our science curriculum begins in EYFS and is taught weekly from year one. We provide a progressive pathway through scientific knowledge and enquiry skills with a focus on progressive subject vocabulary. Lessons are engaging, well-sequenced, and enriched with real-world contexts, ensuring that science is both meaningful and memorable for our learners.
Our curriculum encourages children to think and work like scientists—asking questions, predicting outcomes, observing carefully, and drawing conclusions—while also building a solid foundation of scientific vocabulary and understanding. Practical investigation is at the heart of our approach, promoting hands-on learning and collaborative discovery.
At Stafford Leys we highlight the importance of science in everyday life, future careers, and global challenges. We aim to develop confident, inquisitive learners who are not only knowledgeable but also environmentally and socially aware.
Every year the children celebrate science week with opportunities for children in year 6 to visit high schools and experience high school science lessons and children in year 3 take part in engineering egg race led by Mr Kitchen!
