Music

Music.

Music at Stafford Leys is delivered through a bespoke programme of study constructed by our specialist music teacher, providing a rich and engaging musical journey that develops children’s skills, creativity, and confidence.

Our curriculum plan has been devised for Stafford Leys Primary school to provide a Music Curriculum that meets the academic, social, cultural and emotional needs of its children. The DfE Model Music Curriculum (March 2021) and Ofsted’s Striking the Right Note – the music subject report (2023) has guided the content and progression planning but has been adapted to reflect the school’s operational model and ethos.

Weekly singing assemblies are a key part of our curriculum, focusing on developing the use of voice and expanding children’s repertoire by exploring songs from famous singers and songwriters. We offer exciting opportunities for children to showcase their talents, including participation in the annual Young Voices concert. Beyond the core curriculum, children are invited to take part in additional music lessons led by specialist teachers from the Junior Academy of Music (JAM), where they can learn to play the keyboard, guitar and drums.

Our music programme nurtures a lifelong appreciation for music, encouraging every child to explore, perform, and enjoy the power of sound.

In October 2025, Stafford Leys was awarded the “Music Marks of Recognition for Ambition and Quality.” This was awarded by Leicestershire Music Hub. Only 10% of schools in Leicestershire are chosen for this award and this is for own quality of music provision within our school and the great emphasis that we put on giving opportunities to our pupils within school and the wider community.
